This week I ended the UX Scotland conference with a list of “threats” to UX.* It has always been a field that struggles to thrive within orgs that value profit and speed. But it has a home in orgs that aim to understand people and take their perspectives to collaborate on better outcomes. In other words, it does not have much of a home within Microsoft, Apple, Google, Amazon, etc., but it does have a place at orgs that focus on people, animals, plants, or the ecosystems within which we all live and affect each other.
The method that I teach in these courses helps orgs understand the complexity of life in a way that is structured enough to guide teams (and strategies) for decades.
We are creating solutions for things that are “life.” We are creating things that make ripples, and we’re taking our time to examine all the details. Unintended consequences are something that affects more than just our orgs. It affects societies. It affects systems. It changes our future.
I’m in the middle of creating a new version of Finding Thinking Styles, and this sale is meant to help you get the foundation in place. Listening Deeply is the pre-requisite for Finding Thinking Styles. The two-part course on making Mental Model Skylines is what you need to be able to track and improve outcomes for people by thinking style. Making mental model skylines involve qualitative data synthesis, finding concepts, making summaries, then helping patterns emerge using the affinity technique of people’s focus of mental attention. Check out the course descriptions and the four price levels, too.

Let’s see what this weekend brings, and reach out to form collaboration groups with each other.
